about irc

What is a hemorrhoid?

A hemorrhoid is an enlarged blood vessel in the anal area that has become swollen. When a hemorrhoid becomes inflamed, the swollen blood vessel may protrude through the anus and/or cause soreness, bleeding or itching.

What is IRC (Infrared Coagulation)?

Infrared Coagulation is a safe, fast and proven treatment for hemorrhoids.  A small probe contacts the area above the hemorrhoid, exposing the tissue to a burst of infrared light for about one second.  This coagulates the veins above the hemorrhoid causing it to shrink and recede.

Does This Procedure Hurt?

IRC treatments are often PAINLESS therefore, NO ANESTHESIA or special preparation is required.  Some people may feel a sensation of heat during the procedure.

How Long is the Procedure?

An IRC treatment takes only a few minutes and can be done during a regular office visit.  NO RECOVERY TIME is needed and most people return to work or play immediately.

How Many Visits are Required?

Based on an examination, the physician will determine how many visits a patient will need. Typically, most patients require around 5 treatments at 2-3 week intervals.
